    Factbox-Over 974,000 US customers still without power from Hurricane Helene

    (Reuters) -Over 974,000 homes and businesses were still without power in the U.S. Southeast and Midwest on Thursday in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which hit the Florida Panhandle on Sept. 26, according to data from PowerOutage.us.

    Those outages were down from around 1.7 million on Tuesday as utilities continued to restore power. In total, the storm knocked out service to around 5.5 million customers, predominantly in the Southeast.

    The utility with the most outages was U.S. energy company Duke Energy, a major supplier in the Carolinas, with about 256,613 customers still out in South Carolina and 225,181 still out in North Carolina, according to PowerOutage.us.

    Duke Energy said on Tuesday that it expected to restore power to the majority of its customers in the Carolinas by Friday night.
