North Korea’s foreign minister had talks with China, KCNA says

SEOUL (Reuters) -North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui had a meeting with China's foreign minister, Wang Yi, the official news agency KCNA reported on Monday.

Choe delivered a message from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that the bilateral relationship between two countries is unchanging and should develop to meet the demands of the times, KCNA said.

Choe said Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korea's Kim set up a basic direction and principle of the bilateral relationship at the latest summit in early September that meets the needs of changing international affairs, according to KCNA.

Wang told Choe that the two countries should strengthen strategic communications and increase cooperation to secure regional peace and stability, the agency reported.

The ministers had in-depth talks on domestic and international affairs and had a "complete agreement" over the matters, KCNA said, without elaborating.

In early September, Kim participated in a summit with Xi in Beijing, and according to KCNA, he told Xi that Pyongyang would keep supporting China in protecting the ally's sovereignty.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers came as Xi is expected to visit South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Cooperation Summit scheduled for October 31-November 1 in Gyeongju.

South Korea also believes U.S. President Donald Trump is likely to visit the country for the APEC event, although Washington has not officially confirmed his attendance.
