Labour Councillor Raja Zeeshan has officially assumed office as Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich for the 2026–27 municipal year, marking a significant milestone in his public service career. The inauguration ceremony was held at Greenwich Town Hall and was attended by councillors, community leaders, local residents, and distinguished guests from across the borough. Councillor Zeeshan, who represents Woolwich Dockyard Ward, has been widely recognised for his long-standing commitment to community engagement, civic participation, and local representation. His appointment is seen by many as a reflection of nearly two decades of active involvement in community and public service initiatives across London. Throughout his years of service, Zeeshan has worked closely with residents and community organisations, supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening community relations, encouraging youth participation, and addressing local concerns. He has also been a vocal advocate for residents on a range of issues affecting communities within the borough. Speaking after taking office, Zeeshan expressed gratitude for the support he has received from colleagues and residents.

“Assuming the office of Deputy Mayor is a great honour and responsibility. I am sincerely grateful to my fellow councillors, residents, community leaders, friends, and family for the trust they have placed in me. I am committed to carrying out this responsibility with integrity, dignity, and a strong commitment to public service.”
Zeeshan is the son of Raja Abdur Rehman, a prominent legal figure in Pakistan. His appointment has been welcomed by residents, community organisations, and supporters both within Greenwich and beyond.
As Deputy Mayor, Zeeshan will assist the Mayor in fulfilling civic and ceremonial duties, represent the borough at official engagements, and help celebrate the achievements and contributions of the diverse communities that make up Greenwich. His appointment comes at a time when local authorities continue to place increasing emphasis on community cohesion, civic participation, and engagement with residents, areas in which Zeeshan has built a strong reputation throughout his years of public service.
