US considers new sanctions on Brazilian judge, FT reports

-

Aug ‌16 (Reuters) - The U.S. government has discussed new sanctions against Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, the Financial ‌Times reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The U.S. sanctioned Justice Moraes last year in July under the Global ‌Magnitsky Act, punishing him for overseeing ‌the trial that led to former President Jair Bolsonaro's ‌conviction and imprisonment for attempting a coup after ‌losing his 2022 re-election bid.

The United States later removed these sanctions ‌in December.
