The Split Up: Ritu Arya and Sanjeev Bhaskar lead new BBC drama with September air date

-

The Split Up, the new spin-off from legal drama The Split, has confirmed its BBC air date, with The Umbrella Academystar Ritu Arya and Unforgotten actor Sanjeev Bhaskar leading the cast.

The six-part legal drama is set in Manchester and follows the Kishan family, a British South Asian family whose law firm specialises in high-net-worth divorce.

Arya plays Aria Kishan, a rising lawyer at family-run firm Kishan Law who is expected to take over the business from her father, Dhruv, played by Bhaskar.

However, the death of Aria’s mother causes Dhruv to reconsider whether his daughter should take on the responsibility of running the firm alone.

Aria is also facing uncertainty in her personal life. She is preparing to marry her long-term partner Neal, played by Danny Ashok, but their relationship comes under pressure as their personal and professional lives become increasingly intertwined.

The situation becomes more complicated when a former secret flame unexpectedly arrives in Manchester.

Aria’s siblings Maya and Kav, played by Aysha Kala and Arian Nik, are also caught up in the tensions surrounding the family and its business.

Set against Manchester’s high-net-worth divorce circuit, the series will explore the pressures facing the Kishan family as they deal with ambition, relationships and expectations about the future.

Unlike the original series, The Split Up features a completely new family and set of characters, while retaining the legal and relationship-focused themes of The Split.

The series has been created by Ursula Rani Sarma, based on The Split, which was created by Abi Morgan.

The cast also includes Dimitri Leonidas, Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shalini Peiris and Tom Forbes, with guest appearances from Lenny Henry, Jane Horrocks and Jameela Jamil.

The Split Up will be available as a box set on BBC iPlayer from Sunday 20 September 2026.

The series will also air on BBC One at 9pm on Sundays and Mondays, beginning on 20 September.
