SAO PAULO, āJune 20 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Luiz āInacio Lula da Silva has maintained his lead over ā opposition right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro in the race for the October presidential election, āa new poll by Datafolha showed on Saturday.
Lula, āof the left-wing Workers' Party, would win a potential second-round runoff against the senator by ā 47% to 43%, repeating last ā month's results, Datafolha said.
In the most likely first-round scenario, the incumbent polled at 41% compared to 31% for Bolsonaro.
The new āDatafolha survey suggests that the senator may ā have stemmed the electoral ādamage caused by the ārevelation that he asked a now jailed banker to finance a film about his āfather, former President Jair Bolsonaro, āwho has ā been convicted of plotting a coup āagainst the democratic order.
The ā senator said that no favors were exchanged in connection with the movies' financing.
Datafolha surveyed ā2,004 respondents across ā139 cities. The poll carries a margin ā of error of ātwo percentage points.
