French government survives first of two no-confidence votes on energy law

    -

PARIS, Feb ‌25 (Reuters) - The French government survived the first of two no-confidence motions in parliament on Wednesday filed following its decision to adapt through decree ‌a new energy law, without giving the National Assembly the final say.

The motion, filed by France's far-right National Rally (RN) party, was backed by 140 members of parliament, ‌while 289 votes were needed for the motion ‌to pass.

A vote on the second no-confidence motion, filed by the hard-left ‌France Unbowed, (LFI) is expected shortly.

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu's government, which ‌lacks a parliamentary majority, already has survived two no-confidence votes this year after pushing ‌a delayed budget through the National Assembly.
