Rubio says immediate goal on Sudan is cessation of hostilities going into new year

WASHINGTON, Dec ​19 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ⁠on Friday said that Washington's immediate goal on ‍Sudan is a cessation of ​hostilities going into the new year that allows humanitarian ​organizations to be able to deliver assistance.

Rubio, speaking to reporters at a news conference, ‌said that countries are providing ‌weaponry and equipment to the ​parties, including transshipment of weapons particularly to the ‌paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. ⁠He added that the ‌Trump administration ​has engaged with leaders of the United Arab Emirates, ⁠Saudi Arabia ⁠and Egypt on Sudan.
