WASHINGTON, July ā26 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump āhas paused attacks on Iran to allow ā more room for diplomacy, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said on āSunday.
"He's giving talks some space, he's giving āit a little bit of room," Mike Waltz told the "Fox News Sunday" program.
Waltz did ā not provide further detail ā on the nature of the talks, but there has been a weekend lull in the fighting between Iran and āthe United States. The Pentagon paused ā bombing operations after 13 ānights of escalating strikes āand there were no weekend reports of attacks by Iran on its neighbors.
Asked āabout the pause, a āsenior official in ā Trump's administration said on Saturday āthat the president "has ā always been clear that his preference is diplomacy, but he has shown Iran what āwill happen āif they fail to come to the ā table in a āserious way."
